The Senior section at Old Owen’s consists of 3 Saturday teams. Our 1st XI plies its trade in the Championship while our 2nd and 3rd XIs will start the 2019 season in divisions 7a and 10b respectively. Over the last few years the club has developed an amazing approach to the game on and off the field. While always striving to do our best and win games its is always done in the spirit of the game. The club has a fantastic social atmosphere that allows any player of any age or ability to really enjoy their Saturdays.
If your looking for a new club or simply looking to dust off those pads why not come and give Old Owen’s a chance. We hope to see you soon.
10 seasons ago the 1’s competed in the old style Division 5 and finished 6th out of 20. Effectively we finished 86th in Hertfordshire, not even including the 10 Home Counties Premier League sides, which included some clubs no longer competing in Hertfordshire.
In 2018 effectively finished 21st in Hertfordshire, with only the 10 sides in each of the Premiership and Championship above us. As we rise into a Premiership Division (the ECB recognises both the Premier Divisionand the Championship as Premier divisions) it’s worth reflecting on a pretty incredible journey since the turn of the century.
In the first 18 years of the 21st century the 1’s have experienced 1 relegation (in 2001) and since then have achieved no fewer than 7 promotions.
This season’s ascendency is only the second time we’ve won silverware by going up as champions, the previous occasion being 14 years ago.
A truly special achievement that comes as a result of years of hard work and prior success.
Here’s the story:
2001 relegated to Division 7
2004 promoted from Division 7 (P1)
2005 promoted from Division 6 (P4)
2009 promoted from Division 5 (P2)
2011 promoted from Division 4 (P4)
2013 promoted from Division 3 (P4)
2016 promoted from Division 2A (P2)
2018 promoted from Division 1 (P1)
